Cristiano confided to us that this could also be classified as Bramaterra, as it meets all the regulatory requirements. However, Le Pianelle’s flagship is and will remain named simply Bramaterra, so Al Forte is classified as Coste della Sesia.
We were not worried, knowing the meticulous work Cristiano and his team put into their vines, their grapes and their winemaking.
The main differences are the soil, which in Al Forte is only volcanic, the younger age of the vines, the different percentage in the blend (less Nebbiolo, more Croatina) and slightly different fermentation times for single grapes, before they are assembled.
Indeed, Al Forte’s main trait is mineral-influenced fruit and strong acidity. This perfumed and structured red blend demonstrates flavours of juicy red cherries, tart plums, tar and smoke, marked by well-integrated tannins and a lingering finish.
Think Bramaterra, just more rustic, direct, perhaps even brutal. It hits you immediately and stays with your for a long time. Cannot stop drinking… we love it!
