Vespolina is a rather sensitive, almost frail grape variety that needs lots of care. It has a rare bouquet of spices. Probably because of this aromatic richess, it is still grown in this area, where it traditionally is vinified on its own or as a blend with Nebbiolo.
If you love fresh but not weak or predictably “boring” red wines, enjoy this one, made 100% from Vespolina grapes and dedicated to the Goddess of Love. Indeed, Afrodite seduces you instantly. A dark red robe tending to purple, its scent of freshly ground black pepper, a tiny amount of crushed mint leaves and an abundance of fresh berries make it suitable for lighter meals, cold cuts, antipasti and pasta dishes. But make no mistake, Afrodite is a goddess: powerful, persistent and deep, not overly intense, with good acidity, 14° alcohol content. She is perfect also with grilled and BBQ meat, in particular pork and poultry. When slightly chilled, it complements fresh water fish and is an unusual aperitive!
